Hello! I’m Heather. My husband, Dave, and I have been living the RV life since January 2015. We welcomed a baby boy in August 2016, and we can’t resist a cute fur baby.
We chose the RV life after moving frequently in the suburbs of Phoenix for years. Renting wasn’t cutting it, moving was a pain in the you-know-what, and the thought of purchasing a beige box like everyone else was unappealing. Not knowing if we would love or hate living in a RV, we purchased a 29′ 1987 Newmar Kountry Aire 5th wheel on Craig’s List for $2,500 and put a little money into renovating it.
My job as a grant writer for nonprofit organizations affords me the freedom to travel within the state of Arizona, so that’s what we did. There was much to be discovered and new friends to be made. Four months later, we could not remember what was left in our storage unit and cleaned it out for good.
In January 2016 we discovered we were pregnant. The Kountry Aire and our single cab truck weren’t going to cut it with a baby in tow. That’s when we began searching for our current home on wheels, a 39′ Mirage by Thor 5th wheel.
Nearly two years after beginning this journey I can honestly say I don’t miss living in a house one bit. I don’t miss dumping half my monthly income into rent. I don’t miss heating and cooling rooms we never used. I don’t miss neighbors who close their garage door behind them, never to be seen again. I don’t miss yard work, and I definitely don’t miss cleaning. My only regret is that I didn’t do this sooner.
