SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR THESE UPCYCLED DENIM STORAGE BINS

- ½ yard of fabric from a pair of upcycled denim jeans (this is your main fabric)
- *½ yard of upcycled fabric from scraps of left-over fabric (this is your lining)
- ½ yard of light or medium weight fusible interfacing
- Sewing machine
- Fabric scissors
- Cotton thread
- Pins or sewing clips
- Cutting mat, rotary cutting, and ruler
- Iron and ironing board
* Before you cut your fabric, you need to determine what size bins you want to make. My bins measured 8×8, 9×9, and 13×13. Make your decision based on what your ½ yard will cover 😊
HOW TO SEW THESE UPCYCLED DENIM STORAGE BINS
{For our example, I am going to use the 13×13 size)
Cut (2) two 13×13 pieces of the outer denim fabric, (2) two 13×13 pieces of the lining, and (4) four 13×13 pieces of the interfacing. If you make any of the other sizes, just cut out the other pieces accordingly.

Take you interfacing and iron it to the wrong side of both pieces of your outer denim fabric and both pieces of the lining. Interfacing adds support, weight and structure to your storage bins.

With right sides of the fabrics facing each other, pin or clip both sides and the bottom of the outer denim fabric and the lining. Now it’s time to sew!

Using a 1/4” seam allowance, sew along the sides and bottom of your outer denim squares and your lining squares. Press your side seams open.

Make a box corner for both the outer denim and the lining. I have added a collage to give you photo instructions on how to do this. Just follow the steps above and you’ll be fine. You can also look at many YouTube videos for instructions.

Turn the denim basket inside out and the lining right side out. Place the outer denim basket inside the lining, so that right sides are together. Match up the side seams and pin or clip into place.
Sew the inner and outer bins together by going around the top. Leave a 4-5” opening for turning.

Pull the lining through the opening so the denim outer fabric and the lining are both showing the right side of the fabric. Tuck the lining into the denim and press around the opening so it is nice and sharp looking!

Finally, top stitch your opening closed. Now, just fold over the lining and you’re done! Time to enjoy your new bin!
HOW TO USE YOUR STORAGE BINS
The great part about making these storage bins is that they’re really, really handy. You can use them and have them sitting on shelves, under the bed, under the counter, or on shelves in your camper or RV. We’ve even made these up and kept on in the trunk and backseat of the car to hold items as we’re traveling down the road.
Another really great idea is to change out the fabric and use these as a way to add some organization to the kid’s rooms in your house. A little storage bin can go a long way in keeping their floor clean and cluttered!
GIVING THESE DIY UPCYCLED DENIM STORAGE BINS TO OTHERS
Giving a homemade gift to someone that you love and care about is always fun. But what makes these storage bins even more unique is that you can not only give them a unique homemade gift, but you can also fill it with something cool for them to have, too.
These bins make a really great housewarming gift that you can also fill full of other cute home decor items or even a bottle of sparking cider, too. When you’re looking for ways to give these gifts to others, you really can’t go wrong with whatever way you decide to present it.

Another upcycle project for old jeans would be a close pin bag. Not sure how many people hang cloths to air dry anymore?
