Cut off the right and top margins of each printed page before assembling the pattern. You can use tape or school glue to adhere your paper pattern together.
After the pages have been printed and trimmed as instructed above, use the quarter circles located at the corner of each page for perfect alignment. When done your pattern should look like this:

Pin the front and back of each tier for your dress right sides together at the side seams. Sew using a 3/8” seam allowance. Repeat these steps for the overlay pieces for each tier.
Fold straps right sides together and sew, leaving a gap to turn. Turn right sides out.
Pin the straps to the Tier 1 Overlay,1/2” away from the armhole curve. Repeat for all the straps. Baste the straps in place.
Next on this how to sew a flapper dress with free pattern, turn the Tier 1 Overlay wrong side out, turn dress tier wrong side out. Insert the overlay inside the dress layer.
Align at the neck and arms and pin. Sew the pieces together with a 3/8” seam allowance.
Hem tier 1 overlay by folding it 1/4” and another 1/4” and sew. We are about halfway through this how to sew a flapper dress with free pattern!
Hem tier 2,3,4 overlays in the same way. Also, repeat those steps to hem Dress tier 4 in the same manner.
Sew a gathering stitch in overlay tiers 2,3,4 and pull on the gathering threads.
Place the overlay layer on top of the dress layer as follows so that both layers are right sides up. Place overlay 2 to dress tier 2, overlay 3 to dress tier 3, and overlay 4 to dress tier 4. Completing the gathering process so the two layers are the same size.
This is what you should have after tier 1 and tier 2 has been sewn together.
