Making your own dishwasher detergent is fast and easy, not to mention much cheaper than buying those expensive pods at the store. When you make it at home, your dishes are being washed without chemicals and come out squeaky clean. It only takes a few supplies too. My favorite part is that I can control how it smells with essential oils. It’s fun to switch it up. Here’s what you need to make a citrus scented DIY dishwasher detergent.
Supplies:
- 2 c. Washing Soda
- 2 c. Baking Soda
- 15 drops Lemon Essential Oil
- 15 drops Orange Essential Oil
- Airtight Container
How To Make DIY Dishwasher Detergent
Place two cups of washing soda in a large mixing bowl.
Add 2 cups of baking soda and combine well.
Add 15 drops of lemon essential oil.
Add 15 drops of orange essential oil.
Stir until the oil is incorporated well into the powder mixture.
Store your DIY dishwasher detergent in an airtight container.
When ready to use, place 1 tablespoon of the detergent in your dishwasher compartment and set is to wash as you normally would.
For best results, dishes should be pre-rinsed before placing them in the dishwasher, but that is true for all detergents.
Try making it with lavender essential oil too. It’s lovely.
