These hats will keep your little one’s head nice and warm. Newborns get cold easily so it is important to keep them cozy. I used some cute print knit jersey fabric for my hats, but you could use some scrap fabric as long as you had at least half of a yard. These turned out so great and I am so glad that I came across this cute hat pattern.

- Thread nippers
- Sewing machine
How To Make A Baby Hat with Free Printable Pattern

To start off this how to make a baby hat with free printable pattern sewing tutorial by washing, drying, and pressing your fabric. This process acts as a preshrink for the fabric so that it doesn’t get messed up the first time you wash it. Pressing your fabric also makes it easier to cut. Once you have done that, you’ll need to print and assemble the included free pattern. Tape the “bunny ears” onto the Hat piece of the pattern. You’ll need to place the pattern pieces parallel to the stretch of the fabric. Fold your fabric with the right sides facing together. Place the Band pattern piece on the fold and pin in place. Place the Hat pattern piece with the bunny ears attached (now called the Baby Hat) to the right of the Band and pin or clip in place. Cut your pieces, unpin, and set them aside.

Now, take the band piece and fold it with right sides facing together and raw edges touching. Pin or clip it together.

Now it’s time to sew! Using a ¼ ” seam allowance, close the opening with a straight stitch.

Using a warm iron, press the seam flat. This will help it lay better for the next steps.

Turn your hat right side out and press flat.
