How To Make Harem Pants With Printable Pattern

Start this how to make harem pants with printable pattern sewing tutorial by washing and drying your fabric. This helps preshrink your fabric and prepares it for washing later so that your stitches don’t pull out or fray the first time you wash it. Plus, it helps make the fabric super soft. Once you have done this, use your pattern to cut out your fabric pieces.

Next, pin pants pieces right sides together at the curves on the crotch.

Now it’s time to sew! Sew both the front and the back crotch areas using a 3/8” seam allowance.

With the pants seam together, rearrange the pants so that the seams are now in the center of the pants.

Now we will work on sewing the legs of the pants. Line up the edges and pin down the entire inseam of the pants leg. Do this for both legs.

Sew the inseam of the pants using a 3/8” seam allowance.

Now we will work on the waist of our harem pants. To make the channel for the elastic waistband, fold the waist of the pants ½ inch, then another ½ inch, and sew down the channel making sure to leave a 1.5-inch opening to insert elastic.

We also want to add elastic to our pant legs. The process is just like what we did for the waistband: Fold the leg of the pants ½ inch then another ½ inch and sew, leaving a 1-inch opening to insert elastic. We can leave a smaller opening here.

To add elastic for the waistband, insert the elastic cut according to your waist measurement into the waist of the pants through the opening you left in the channel. Overlap then ends ½” and sew both ends together. Once you have done that, you can insert the elastic fully into the channel and sew the opening closed. We are about halfway through this how to make harem pants with a printable pattern!

You will repeat the steps above to add the elastic for the legs. Insert the elastic into the channel you sewed in the legs. Overlap the elastic ends by ½” and sew them together.

Insert the elastic fully into the channel and sew the opening closed. Make sure to do this for both legs.

Next on this how to make harem pants with printable pattern sewing tutorial, we will prepare to sew our elastic ribbon. Start by winding your bobbin with elastic thread. Pull slightly on the thread so you wind it with some tension. You will use a regular thread for your top thread.

Using a fabric marker, mark 7“ from below the waist. Make this mark all the way around the pants.

Starting sewing from the side seam on top of the mark you made. Sew all the way around the pants. When you get back to the beginning, backstitch and cut your thread. Begin sewing again ½ inch from your previously sewn line.

Continue sewing elastic rows until you are about ½ inch from the waist.
