I was going through my closet this week to get rid of some old clothes when I had an idea: what if I modified some of my jeans to be in style? That’s right, today I’m going to show you how to Make Your Own Skinny Jeans! Skinny jeans are very cute and fashionable right now. They are very flattering and are a great addition to your wardrobe. If you have some regular jeans in your closet that you don’t like anymore, you can quickly turn them into skinny jeans. My daughter needed new pants, so we went to goodwill to buy some. She doesn’t like bootcut jeans, but they didn’t have very many skinny jeans to choose from. We found pants that fit around the waist and then turned them into skinny jeans at home. She had some skinny jeans that fit her nicely already, so that is what we used as a pattern. This works on all types of jeans for both men and women. This is a great way to save money on clothing items while getting the satisfaction of making them your own. Here is how you can do the same.
You’ll only need a few supplies for this project. You’ll need a pair or two of jeans you want to transform, either for yourself, your kids, or your husband. You’ll need some matching thread to blend in with your jeans. As far as tools, you’ll need a sewing machine of course, along with some scissors or a rotary cutter, mat, and ruler, and something to mark your lines like a fabric marker. Once you have gathered up your supplies from the list below, we can get started!

How To Make Your Own Skinny Jeans
The first step in this how to make your own skinny jeans sewing tutorial is to take your regular jeans and turn them inside out and face them zipper side down on the floor or table.
Do the same with the skinny jeans that fit you and lay those on top of the regular jeans (I forgot to turn mine inside out before I took this picture).
Next on this how to make your own skinny jeans sewing tutorial, make sure everything is nice and smooth by grabbing the inside leg seam with one hand and use the other hand to smooth over the leg of the pants to make sure there are no wrinkles in the fabric. Line up the outer edge of both pant legs. Now trace with a marker along the inside edge of the seam of the skinny jeans starting at the knee and going all the way down to the bottom of each leg. Here’s what it looks like after you’ve made your line.
Now take your jeans to your sewing machine or serger. If you’re using your sewing machine, use a straight stitch and sew along the line you made. Change your stitch on your sewing machine to a zig-zag stitch and sew on the outside of your straight stitch, like the drawing below. This will reinforce your straight stitch.
Trim off all the excess fabric with scissors or a rotary cutter and you are done! Now you know how to make your own skinny jeans! This is a great way to use what you already have in your closet so you can save money while still upgrading your style.
