Living in a RV for two years taught us a lot about valuing our time together. Less space meant less time taking care of things and more time taking care of ourselves. Our RV was totaled, but we would do it all again in a heartbeat! In the meantime, we can rent a RV for our next family vacation and you can too!
Whether your family has always dreamed of taking a cross-country road trip or you’re simply looking for a new way to go on an adventure and explore the country, renting an RV can be a great way to experience your next vacation. Not convinced? Here are a handful of reasons it might make sense to ditch the hotel room or Airbnb and rent an RV for your next family vacation:
5 Smart Reasons to Rent a RV
You’ll save on accommodations. I won’t go so far as to say traveling by RV is cheap, but it can definitely be a more affordable way to travel when you consider the hotel fees and flights you’d otherwise have to pay to enjoy your vacation. Most companies that rent out RV’s offer a small variety of sizes and models, so you can choose the option that’ll provide your family enough room to sprawl out and rest each evening.
You’ll get to enjoy all the comforts of home – on the road! One of the best things about traveling via RV is the fact that it’s essentially equipped with everything you’d find in a standard house. Having access to a kitchen – granted, a small one – means you won’t have to stop constantly to eat or spend money on unhealthy fast food, and the onboard restroom will save you a few pit stops for bathroom breaks. It is much easier to bring all your baby necessities too. This one was our favorite for inside and out.
You won’t have to unpack. Traveling by RV means your belongings stay with you – not in your hotel. This can be comforting for those who are distrustful of hotel staff or Airbnb hosts, and it’s convenient for everyone else. You’ll be far less likely to realize you forgot something back in the room halfway through your day, because chances are, you’re either in your RV with your luggage or somewhere nearby.
You’ll spend some real quality time together. Sharing such close quarters with your family might not sound great to everyone, but it can be a perfect opportunity to really connect with one another and spend some quality time together. With internet access, you can even work on the road if you have to. Pack board games and other activities to enjoy when you aren’t exploring to bring you together too. We played Phase 10 a lot in the evenings and on rainy days. It is compact and fun for the whole family.
You’ll enjoy the great outdoors. If your goal is to get your family outdoors and exploring, rent a RV! It can be tempting to spend extra time lounging around in an ultra-comfortable, super plush hotel room, but traveling and staying in such a small space can make the idea of getting out and stretching your legs extra enticing. You’ll likely eat, relax and socialize outdoors, so bring some camp chairs enjoy the fresh air!
Bonus: You can bring a hobby along too! Of course I would grab my sewing machine to squeeze in some quilting time.
If you weren’t convinced before that traveling by RV might be the right choice for your family, you may want to reconsider! Did I miss any of your biggest reasons for traveling via RV? If so, I’d love to hear them! Let me know in the comments section below.

We’ve thought about doing this. Maybe we will on our next family road trip… though we do like using hotel pools!
Many RV resorts have pools. Although, if you’re renting a RV you may as well get into the sticks and really take advantage of nature. Maybe you need two vacations? LOL
