What You’ll Need:

Materials

For those that craft or sew often you will have most of these supplies in your craft closet or drawer. The one exception would be the Sewing pearls which you can buy online or pick up at your local craft store. Now that you have all the materials you need let’s start on this DIY craft.

DIY Felt Coin Purse Craft

Take a rectangular felt sheet and fold it into three equal parts.

To start this project we will begin with your main piece of felt. Pick the size and color you want to use for the main body of your felt coin purse. Have the piece horizontal in front of you. Take the left side and fold it into the center (1/3 fold). Next, fold the right side on top of the piece you just folded.

Draw a semicircle on the top

Draw a semicircle on the top. This will give you a line to cut out the top flap of your coin purse.

Now, cut it along the line.

Now, cut it along the line you just drew. Go slow here. You don’t want a crooked coin purse.

Sew the edges of the felt

Next, we will start to sew the edges of the felt together to make the purse! No need to pull out the sewing machine. We are doing this one by hand. Don’t worry, its super easy to do even if you don’t have a lot of experience.

Add bead to needle while sewing

Start the “blanket stitch” sewing at the edge of the felt. Insert the bead into the needle and take the bead until it touches the felt.

Lead the needle through the loop

Lead the needle through the loop and pull it over. Your DIY Felt Coin Purse is coming together, literally!

sewing edges of

Continue the process along the edge. You will sew the two edges together to create the pocket for your felt coin purse then around the edge of the front flap to continue the design.

Lock the end.

Once you are finished with the stitching, simply lock the ends. This keeps it from coming undone and adds some durability to the stitch.

Sew the larger bead on the bottom center of the fabric front as a closure for coin purse

Sew the larger bead on the bottom center of the fabric’s front. This will act as part of the closure for your felt purse.

Tie off the loop on the inside.

Once you are done, just tie off on the inside of your stitch to secure the bead.

Sew a loop on the middle of the coin purse

Next, sew a loop on the middle of the purse so that you can fasten it to the bead at the front. You don’t want all your money falling out!

Finish off the loop on front of purse

Finish off the loop and tie it off. This will complete the closure for your DIY Felt Coin Purse Craft.

Draw hearts in 4 sizes and cut

Time to decorate! Get your other colored felt materials and draw 4 different size hearts on them. Cut them out as shown above. Note that you can always choose to do circles, stars or any other shape that you may prefer.

Glue the hearts to each other and to the coin purse

Pick where you want them to go on your purse. I picked the center of the flap. Take the hearts and stack them up. Glue the hearts together. Be as creative as you wish when placing the hearts. Once you decide where to put them, glue them to the purse. You could always do stars or circles or any other design as well to make it super unique. You could even stitch in initials to truly personalize it.

Completed Felt Coin Purse with object inside.

That’s it! Now, you have a super cute, easy DIY Felt Coin Purse that you can use for just about anything! You could use it for make-up or pens and coins or money. Really anything that will fit in it! I like to use them for my spare change as well as charging cords for all my devices, keeping them all together and organized. This is a simple felt craft that I thoroughly enjoyed and was a nice break from the sewing machine. It also made me appreciate my sewing machine, when I do use it for my DIY sewing projects and don’t have to hand stitch them.
