Pin the excess of your elastic in place and in this order, layer your pieces: Cotton piece, right side facing up, cotton batting, and flannel right side facing down. Pin the layers in place. Next on this diy sleep mask with free printable pattern sewing tutorial, sew the layers together around the mask using a using a 3/8″ seam allowance. Make sure you leave an opening at the top as indicated on the pattern for turning the mask right side out in a later step.
Cut notches out of the curves to make it easier to turn right side out. The keeps the edges from bunching up when you turn it.
Using your turning tool, turn the mask right side out. With a warm iron, press around the edges, and press the raw edges of the opening at the top inward. This will make it easier to sew the opening closed.
Finally, the last step on the diy sleep mask with free printable pattern sewing tutorial, topstitch around the mask using a 1/4″ seam allowance to close up the opening. That’s it! The purpose of a sleep mask is to cut out the darkness so that you can rest easy and get some sleep. It’s amazing how the light coming in through your windows can throw off all of your rest.
The other thing that people do with sleep masks is wearing them right up to the point that they’re going ready to drift off to sleep. Once they’re to that point, they then take off the face mask and snuggle down since their minds are already made up that it’s time for bed. They are also great when you are trying to sleep on an airplane! You can block out any light around you and actually rest!
