I love a good Christmas ornament. If you’ve ever visited one of those cool winter wonderland type Christmas stores you’ve probably gotten sticker shock from some of the prices on the ornaments. The good thing about this little fabric tree ornament is that you can make it for super cheap and it still looks great. The included free pattern makes it so easy to cut out the shape for the tree so you have nice, premium looking ornaments. I used some flannel plaid fabric I had in my scrap pile but you could use felt or any fabric you wanted. The best part about it is that this ornament is so easy to customize. You can create something amazing and flashy or stick to traditional and simple style like I did. The choice is yours.

For the stuffing, I just used some leftover polyfil I had and some jute twine from another project. It doesn’t have to be fancy to be special. The first step in this how to make a fabric Christmas tree ornament with free pattern tutorial is to print and cut out the included free printable pattern. You can wash, dry, and press your fabric before you start but it is up to you. Use the pattern to cut out two tree shapes from your fabric.

Next, you’ll need to cut a piece of twine to hang your ornament from. I chose to use twine, but you could use any string you have on hand. Cut a length of twine(or whatever you have) to 8”.

Now we will work on getting the ornament set up for sewing. Fold the twine you cut in the previous step into a loop. Then, secure it to the top of the tree on the fabric’s right side with a sewing clip. Fold the loop in half again and clip so that it is in the center of the tree. This is to ensure you don’t sew over it.

Place the remaining fabric tree on top of the other with right sides together. Clip all the way around to hold it in place

Head over to your sewing machine and sew around the perimeter of the tree, either by machine or by hand, with a ⅛” seam allowance. Stitch back and forth over the twine a few times to secure it. Reach inside the tree to pull the twine through the opening, and turn it right side out.
