Crop tops are a fun way to beat the heat while still being modest enough for all-around wear. When my sewing friend, Debbie, showed me this pattern, I knew I had to make it. This top is so cute and trendy. It looks great and is easy to sew thanks to the included free pattern. You’ll be able to knock this out in about an hour, so you could pick out some cute fabric today and make this in time to wear it tomorrow. This is a great addition to your DIY summer wardrobe. The best part is that you can make this to fit just right. Perfect for a backyard barbeque with the neighbors or a night on the town with your girlfriends. I love that you can wear this top with basically anything. Wear it with a cute tulle skirt like in the photo or pair it with jeans or shorts for a more casual look. What You’ll Need:
- 1 Yard of 44″ Wide Fabric – Cotton, cotton blends
- 1 14” zipper
- Free Pattern
- Matching Thread
- Pins

- Seam Ripper

Note on Fit:
The crop top is a snug fit. If you feel that you need more room to get into the top, sew your zipper upside down so that you will unzip it from the hem instead of from the top. The process is the same to enter the zipper both ways.
Printing Instructions
This crop top pattern has layers so that you can choose to print only the size you need. To achieve this Adobe Reader must be installed on your machine or device. Adobe Reader allows you to click on the layers icon which will show you each size with an eyeball beside it. Click on the eyeball beside the size you do not want to print. Before printing check that your printer is set to No scaling or Actual size. Set the Page orientation to Auto or Portrait. And then print page 1. Measure the 2” test square to see if it measures exactly 2”. If it does, print the remaining pages.
Trimming Pages
Cut off the right and top margins of each printed page before assembling the pattern.
You can use tape or school glue to adhere your paper pattern together.
Pattern Assembly
After the pages have been printed and trimmed as instructed above, use the quarter circles located at the corner of each page for perfect alignment. When done your pattern should look like this:

How To Sew A Crop Top With Free Pattern
The first step in this how-to sew a crop top with a free pattern sewing tutorial is to wash, dry, and iron my fabric. This gives me nice, crisp cut lines. Once you have printed and assembled your pattern, use it to cut out your fabric pieces. Refer to the cut list above to make sure you have all your pieces.
Next, fold the darts on the front and the back of the top. Pin them together.
Now it’s time to sew that crop top. Start sewing from the hem towards the tip of the dart, leaving long tail threads which you will tie to secure.
Next on this is how to sew a crop top with free pattern sewing tutorial, it’s time to work on the facing. Pin the shoulder of the front and back facing right sides together. Repeat for the main bodice front and back pieces.
Sew the facings at the shoulder seams using a 3/8” seam allowance.
Sew the bodice pieces together at the shoulder seams using the same 3/8” seam allowance.
Now we will start putting your top all together. Pin the top and the facing right sides together. Pin at the neckline and around the armholes. Sew around the neckline and the armholes using a 3/8” seam allowance.

Pin the side seams and the facing right sides together and sew.
Clip into the curve of the neckline and armhole every 1/2”. This will make it to turn in a later step.

Using the Stitch in the ditch technique, secure the facing to the bodice. Also, baste the facing to the bodice at the neckline.
Fold the bodice right sides together, aligning the raw edges of the back bodice and pin.
Lay the bodice flat and place your zipper on top of the bodice. Mark where your zipper stops.
Sew from the hem of the top to the zipper mark with a regular stitch.
You will sew from the zipper mark to the top of the bodice using a basting stitch.
Turn your bodice right sides out and finger press the seam open.
Lay your zipper on top of the seam ensuring that the center of the zipper is aligned to the center of the seam.
The next thing to do in how to sew a crop top is to pin and sew the zipper in place using a zipper foot.
Remove the basting stitch you used to hold the zipper in place. I recommend using a seam ripper to make this easy.
For the last step in this how-to sew a crop top with free pattern is to hem the top by folding 1/2” twice and stitch 1/8” from the fold.
