We have a fun and super simple sewing project for you today! I’m going to show you this Easy Sew Neck Gaiter! Neck gaiters are great for keeping the sun off your face and neck while you are in the sun. I use one while I garden and I even used one last week when I went kayaking. It works super well and you don’t have to make sure you rub sunscreen all over your face. I hate that oily feeling. You can make these out of a thicker, warmer fabric like fleece and use it in the winter to stay warm. Today, we will be focusing on the warmer weather version. This is such an easy sewing project. It takes all of 5 minutes to make! That means you can make some of these for the whole family. They are cheap to make as well. I made this one for about $2.00. If you have some scrap fabric pieces that are big enough you could make this for even less. I made some for the kids that were a little smaller, but not by much. This project is great for beginners and anyone just starting out in sewing.
For this sewing project I used some fabric I found at HobbyLobby. I prefer a jersey knit t-shirt-like fabric for mine because it is soft against my skin. I loved the print of this fabric, but you could use a solid color print or whatever you wanted. As far as supplies go, you really just need some fabric, some scissors, some pins, and a sewing machine. I’ve included a few items I always recommend that make your sewing life easier. With all that being said, let’s get started on this easy sew neck gaiter!
What You’ll Need:
- Stretchy Knit (Jersey) Fabric
- Matching thread
- Optional Rotary Cutter & Mat
- Measuring tape
- Sewing machine
How To Make An Easy Sew Neck Gaiter
Start this easy sew neck gaiter tutorial by washing, drying, and pressing your fabric. This helps preshrink your fabric and prepares it for washing later so that your stitches don’t pull out or fray the first time you wash it. Plus, it helps make the fabric super soft. Once you have done that, measure out a piece of fabric 17″x18.5”.
Fold the 18.5” side of the fabric in half with the print sides facing each other and pin together. The neck gaiter will fold together at 9.25×17”, the 9.25” ends will be the openings.
Next on this easy sew neck gaiter tutorial, head over to your sewing machine and sew the pinned edge together using a straight stitch, make sure to backstitch the beginning and end.
Turn it right side out.
Trim any loose threads and slip the neck gaiter over your head. That’s it! Now you know how to make an easy sew neck gaiter! This is a wonderful sewing project if you are just starting out on your sewing journey. While this is won’t really protect you medically, I always have one in my bag for those spontaneous adventures. Whether you are camping, at a sporting event, or just working in the garden, this neck gaiter will keep you cool and out of the sun.
