What You’ll Need:
How To Make An Easy Sew Felt Camper With Free Pattern
Start by selecting different colored felt fabrics for the craft. I’m choosing white felt for the trailer, pink felt for the door and curtains, and selected 5 colors for the triangle banner garland. You be as creative as you like here. The nice thing about this craft is you can kind of lay everything out beforehand to see how it might look. Once you’ve decided on you colors, trace the template patterns on the selected felts and cut them out. The pattern makes it easy for anyone to create the project over and over to give as gifts.
Prepare a needle with a matching thread to sew on the door. Grab any one of the trailer base cutouts and place the door cutout near the front side of the base. Simply use a running stitch to attach the door with the trailer base. Then, use black thread to stitch a cross (window layout) on the window cutout. You can use whatever color, just make sure it stands out.
Once your window is in place, stitch the window along with the curtains on the trailer base pattern. This is already starting to look really cute!
Use matching thread to stitch the front glass pattern to the front part of the trailer base. This is a fun place to experiment with your design if you want by placing different colors and shapes on your camper base to see what you like best.
Now it’s time to get creative! Arrange your triangle cutouts to make the banner. I went with a multicolored one, but you can choose whatever color you like. Once you decide where you want your banner, simply stitch the triangle banner on the trailer. I’ve placed the banner on the top back part of it.
Next, place the back base pattern of the trailer on a flat surface and place the front wheel base on the bottom-front part of the base. Overlap about a cm of both pieces and stitch them together.
It’s time to put everything together! Place the front base pattern on the top of the back piece. Prepare a needle with matching thread and stitch around the side to attach the two base patterns together. Any basic stitch will do here. Make sure you leave a gap to stuff with felt.
Take the scrap pieces of felt you have leftover and stuff the camper through the gap you left. I like to make my felt plushies pretty thick, but you can tailor this to your own preference.
Once you are happy with the filling, you can stitch the open end to secure it. Tie a knot or two when you are finished and cut off extra thread.
To make the wheels for our camper, you can just stitch or glue some buttons on where the wheels would go. That’s it! You’re done with this cute Felt Camper! This is a quick craft that is fun and easy enough for kids and adults. Have fun being creative with the colors of the felt! As you can see, you can literally choose any coloring that you or the kids want.
Tips For Making This Felt Camper Sewing Project
Make sure you let the glue dry completely on the button wheel step or it’s going to fall off. (and if it does, just glue it back on and let it dry again.)
If you’re going to wash this, I recommend hand washing it just to be on the safe side. Cleaning it in the gentle cycle of your washer might be fine, but there’s also a chance that the button will come off in the process. And if you do wash it, lay it flat and let it air dry out. Otherwise, it will bunch up and not be as smooth or flat.
